Georgia: The State Commissioner of Lower Kartli, Giorgi Dokhturishvili, along with the mayor of Marneuli municipality, Kenan Omarov, visited the sports complex of Kizilajlo village on Saturday, February 17, 2024, to observe the educational and training process of the local athletes.
The officials were welcomed by the First Deputy State Commissioner, Giorgi Shinjikashvili, the Member of the Parliament of Georgia, Zaur Dargali, the Chairman of Marneuli Municipality, Amiran Giorgadze, and the deputy mayors of Marneuli Municipality, Zurab Fangan, and Temur Shubitidze.
The sports complex, which covers an area of 1,157 square meters, is a closed, multifunctional facility that can accommodate various sports such as basketball, mini-soccer, volleyball, and wrestling. The complex was built by Socar Energy Georgia, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, and donated to the Georgian state.
The complex has recently been equipped with 40,000 GEL worth of sports equipment, thanks to the initiative and financial support of the local self-government. The equipment includes balls, nets, mats, benches, weights, and other accessories.
The officials expressed their appreciation for the contribution of Socar Energy Georgia and the local self-government to the development of sports and youth in the region. They also praised the performance and potential of the athletes, who demonstrated their skills and enthusiasm during the visit.
The sports complex of Kizilajlo village is one of the several projects that aim to improve the infrastructure and quality of life in Lower Kartli, a region that is home to a diverse and multi-ethnic population.
Marneuli municipality
Marneuli is a city in the Kvemo Kartli region of southern Georgia and the administrative center of Marneuli Municipality that borders neighboring Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Marneuli is the center of the Marneuli Municipality of Georgia. By the decree of the Georgian SSR of March 18, 1947, the village of Borchalo was renamed Marneuli. It received the status of a city in 1964.
