Koka Katsitadze addresses Council of Europe project

Koka Katsitadze the Head of the Special Investigation Service of Georgia gave a welcome speech at the presentation of the Council of Europe project.

He paid special attention to various projects that are being implemented with the help of the European Union.  It is to be added that the head of the Special Investigation Service Koka Katsitadze attended the presentation event of the Council of Europe project recently. This was held under the theme of “Strengthening human rights-oriented approach in Georgian law enforcement agencies” .

It is noteworthy that the event was opened by Natalia Vutova the head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia and it was also attended by Donche Boshkovski the Head of the 2nd Cooperation Division of the Council of European Police and Freedom Cooperation.

Koka Katsitadze also spoke about the role of the Council of European Union in the process of developing the investigation service. Notbally according to him from the beginning of the service the Office of the Council of Europe provides special support to the Special Investigation Service in the implementation of measures focused on creating additional guarantees for the protection of victims’ rights and the production of transparent investigations.

Koka Katsitadze has also focused on the guidance documents defining investigative policy developed with the support of the Council of Europe and the involvement of international experts. Also he emphasized the regional meetings held to raise awareness about the job.

Koka Katsitadze further stated “It is well known to everyone that the European Commission presented Georgia’s first 12 recommendations, then a 9-point recommendation, emphasizing the necessity of efficiency, independence and strengthening of the Special Investigation Service. If today the service has achieved some success in these areas it is due to great contribution Europe Union”.

The presentation of the project was attended by Deputy Head of the Special Investigation Service Giorgi Kvaratskhelia and Natia Songulashvili  representatives of the service, representatives of the Public Defender and NGOs, Project Manager of the Council of Europe Mikhailo Iskra and Senior Project Officer of the Tbilisi Office Eter Kamarauli.
