Georgian delegation visit Czech Republic under program “Save Nature-Georgia”

A delegation of Georgia’s Ministry of Environment and Agriculture is on a working visit to the Czech Republic. During the working visit, they discuss many bilateral issues including the challenges to the environment and measures to tackle them on a priority basis.

A delegation of Georgia’s Ministry of Environment and Agriculture is on a working visit to the Czech Republic. During the working visit, they discuss many bilateral issues including the challenges to the environment and measures to tackle them on a priority basis.

At the same time working meetings of the delegation were held with the Czech Ministry of Environment,   the State Environmental Protection Fund representatives as well to share their mutual experiences.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the members of the Georgian delegation received recommendations from their Czech colleagues for the implementation of measures for the restoration of damaged areas and risk analysis methodology. They also learned about the activities of the Environmental Protection Fund, its structural arrangement, sources of funding, and project financing schemes, discussed environmental responsibility and legislative issues, etc.

On this occasion the members of the delegation visited the damaged areas of the Litvinov oil refinery “Unipetrol” and the former glass  production plant “Eliashka”. .Here they learned about the ongoing and planned works to repair the damage caused to the environment, recovery processes, and the results achieved, and discussed current challenges and measures to reduce the harmful effects on the environment of the country.

 

On the other hand, the Georgian side shared their own experience for environmental protection and a prospectus for future cooperation between the two sides.

The program “Save Nature-Georgia”   by the   Georgian   Ministry  of  Environment  and Agriculture with the support of the   Swedish   government,   has been successfully running since 2021. The project  carries out various  important environmental activities, including the expansion of the atmospheric air quality monitoring network in Georgia, improving air quality and sustainable management of     natural resources,    promoting biodiversity protection and restoration, and strengthening the institutional capabilities of the Ministry and its departments.  The progress of program    has been assessed by the EU report.

Climate change and global warming have also forced Governments to take immediate steps for the protection of the environment.
