Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Thea Tsulukiani inspected the construction of a new garbage dump on the site of the Old Cinema Studio of Remarkable History on David Aghmashenebeli Avenue, on the site of a former wood quarry. The old building, which was a wreck, has been demolished, and new construction has begun in its place.
During the works, two brick debris tunnels were found underground, which also became part of the project. These tunnels were built at different times, and one of their last functions was to connect electricity between movie pavilions. Earlier, they should have been refrigerated.
Construction began in 2023 and will be completed by the end of 2024. It will be a multifunctional art space with a municipal cinema and an exhibition space, offering multiple opportunities for artists from different generations.
They would like to remind the public that, with the initiative of the Minister of Culture, Thea Tsulukiani, and the Ministry of Culture, the rehabilitation of the old cinema studio covering up to four hectares and the construction of an art city have been underway.
The complete rehabilitation of the administrative building, in which office and exhibition spaces will be arranged, is continuing. The new roof is done; facade restoration has started; large-scale reinforcement work has started on the second floor and will be completed in September for office space for the National Cinema Center; and the interior has undergone full restoration and redoing.
In 2022, the following infrastructural works were carried out in the territory of the old film studio: demolition of the recently demolished accident buildings (based on the conclusion of Levan Samkharauli Expert Bureau), laying asphalt and greening; installation of the outdoor lighting system, new water network, and ultimately replaced sewerage system; former Firsatsav, etc. Complete rehabilitation was held in Enoba, and a doll house was set up, 300 sq.m. of the former fire department.
The two-story building was fully rehabilitated, and the apartment was set up with a film casting company, photography workshop, metogines, and a traditional blue table showroom.
Two mosaic panels were removed from the Rustavi motorcade to save them, and they were placed in the territory of the old film studio. A new exhibition space has been set up, which was handed over to the Academy of Arts for management. The fence has been renewed.
In 2024, the accidental part of the former multi-studio building will be demolished to reinforce and rehabilitate two historic cinema pavilions built in the 1920s.
It started in 2023 and in 2025 the complete reinforcement and renovation of the former laboratory building will be completed. It started in 2024, and in August of the same year, the storage and props spaces facility for five theaters will be completed.
