The Republic a of Georgia held a large-scale event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Yuli Straume. The event was held at the Museum of the Cultural Ministry of Georgia.
He was a Latvian public figure who created the folklore and applied art collections of the Art Palace of Georgia. The Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Thea Tsulukiani and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Georgia Edite Mednes ceremonially unveiled the statue of Yuli Straume.
The statue placed in the museum square in front of the Yuli Straume Building was created with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and financial assistance from the Palace of Arts. The event was hosted by Giorgi Kalandia, the general director of the Georgian Art Palace-Culture History Museum and was attended by the Ambassador of Israel to Georgia, Hadas Meitsadi.
At the same time the director of the Ethnographic Museum named after Giorgi Chitaya Nino Chipashvili, the director of the Shalva Amiranashvili State Art Museum, Nika Akhalbedashvili representatives of the Embassy of Latvia and Gulbeni History and Art in Georgia also participated in the event as well.
On this occasion an exhibition displayed Straume’s work collection. The trilingual (Georgian, English, Latvian) catalog “Yuli Straume” published with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia whose text was compiled by the chairman of the Scientific Council of the Palace of Arts, Professor Izolda Melikishvili was also presented.
The exhibition of the artistic work was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Embassy of Latvia in Georgia, the Municipal Museum of History and Art of Gulbeni, the Royal Asian Society of Georgia, and the organization of the Art Palace-Culture History Museum.
The article and other things associated with him were brought by the staff of the Latvian Museum for the exhibition to the Palace of Arts, the Museum of History and Art of the Gulbeni Municipality of Latvia, and the Old School-Museum of Druvien. Visitors will be able to see them until July 19.
Yuli Straume was a the creator of the Museum of Folk and Applied Arts collections and worked in Georgia from 1907 to 1922 and actively served in the promotion of Georgian culture and applied arts.
