Tbilisi: The city-based NGO (Non-Government Organization) “Rights of Georgia”came forward to protect the civilian rights of citizens. These protestors are being charged by law enforcement agencies under the different provisions of Georgia criminal laws.
The NGO Rights Georgia also took to their social media handles and shared this important information. According to the social media post many people are visiting to the lawyer and NGO’s for legal assistance as the members of law enforcement agencies are harassing them being part of the ongoing protest against the foreign agent law.
These protestors are demanding the revocation of the foreign agent law being termed as the Russian Law. The representative of the NGO said the people who are part of the ongoing protest are being fined under Article 125 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. Article 125 defines the offense of road blocking with vehicles in a city or other populated place when the traffic is in full swing.
Similarly, some others are being targeted under Article 150. This article makes the various types of Arbitrary performance of inscriptions, drawings, and symbols on facades of buildings, showcases, fences, columns, and trees, as well as placement of posters, slogans, and banners an offense as well. It is also to be added that since the beginning of May month, the lawyer and other rights defenders have also received phone calls from Inside as well as from foreign countries. On receiving the calls the caller often used abusive language for connection of the receiver with the ongoing protest at any stage.
These incidents of the call with the use of abusive language further fuel the suspicion that data may be processed in violation of the law which is itself a grave violation of the basic human rights of the citizens as well. The NGO also prepared the formats of the legal forms that can be used by the needy person to make get timely legal assistance as well.
