Tbilisi: Nikoloz Samkharadze, The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, met Matush Bushovski, newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Georgia. Both sides discussed many bilateral issues and future strategies to enhance the cooperation between both countries.
The conversation further touched on the possibilities of deepening relations in the fields of trade and economy, tourism and culture.
On this occasion, the European integration of Georgia, the issue of granting the status of a candidate country to Georgia, and steps taken by both the government and future plans were discussed.
Nikoloz Samkharadze informed the Slovak ambassador about the difficult situation in the occupied regions of Georgia – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region and the growing threats coming from Russia. He said that the strong relationship between Georgia and Slovakia could mitigate the threat to occupied territories.
Moreover, they discussed regional security issues of Georgia and Slovakia. The role of Georgia for peaceful resolution of the existing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as process of ensuring regional stability in general, was highlighted.
Speaking on the occasion, Slovakia’s ambassador once again confirmed Slovakia’s strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, as well as the country’s European integration.
The ambassador also congratulated the chairman of the foreign relations committee on the positive recommendation of the European Union. He said that Slovakia always supported Georgia’s effort for integration into the European Union.
The ambassador called for increased trade and commerce along with information sharing on defence and security issues.
Notably both countries have strong and friendly diplomatic relations that have existed for a long time.
The ambassador also thanked the Chairman for the grand reception and warm welcome. He also assured the chairman that he would do his best to boost the friendly relationship. he expressed hopes that in future, both countries will have an impressive presence at the global level.
