Nino Nizharadze, the Minister of the health and social protection of the Adjara presented a report on the various activities of the health ministry. She presented this report in an extraordinary meeting of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Region of Adjara.
It is worth mentioning that in 2023 the budget amount was 48,249,500 GEL. The 2024 budget has increased by 18,020,000 GEL compared to last year’s budget with an extra amount of 51,255,000 GEL. The Ministry implements 36 programs together with sub-departmental institutions. Some of the important initiatives are as follows:
- In 2023-2024, 103,432 beneficiaries were provided with various services in the direction of health, social protection, public health, and employment in Adjara
- In 2023 important program innovations were implemented
- In-patient services for mental and behavioral disorders people caused by alcohol consumption
- Treatment of serious retinal diseases with new-generation drugs
- one-time material assistance for disabled parents and pregnant women
- study of the living environment of beneficiaries with high blood lead exposure
- School of parents for the physical and psychological health of pregnant women
- Metabolic screening of newborns
- Cardiac screening of sports children
- Employment and self-employment promotion program by providing work tools
- Employment in the information technology field , development of skills necessary for self-employment
- A number of important program innovations were implemented both in the direction of health and social protection.
New projects that have been planned for 2024:
- Funding of studies related to genetic profiling of children under the age of 18 with genetic disease will begin
- Dental and medical services will be financed for persons under 30 years of age with disability status
- It is planned to increase funding for one-time assistance for citizens over 100 years old as well as for families with newborn twins
- A new program will be launched that provides financial assistance of 120000 to 150000 points for children under the age of 16 in socially vulnerable families.
- Assistance to the families of disabled soldiers who died and were injured during the 2008 Russian aggression and the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan (2007-2021)
- The budget of the program of additional medical services for patients with malignant tumors has increased by 30%, and the annual funding limit for each patient has reached 50 000 GEL
- The allowance of village doctors and nurses has increased
- A new program has been added called Research on the Morbidity of the Rural Population and Farmers of Ajara Highlands.
