Nino Tandilashvili meets permanent representative of UNDP

Nino Tandilashvili, the first deputy minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia met permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Dagla Ubi.

Georgia: Nino Tandilashvili, the first deputy minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia met Douglas Webb. He is permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to Georgia.

They talked about issues of waste management, reduction of single-use plastics and the green economy in Georgia.

At the meeting the parties focused their attention on implementing the obligations covered under the framework of Georgia’s National Contribution (NDC).

According to Nino Tandilashvili, the country has prepared number of political documents and action plans for environmental protection. Now it is time to implement these action plans and  country needs the support of various UN institutions in this direction.

During the meeting Nino Tandilashvili said “The country has developed a number of political documents in the direction of environmental protection and now it is important to implement them.”

She also said, “To achieve results in the direction of waste management, the implementation of circular economy and the reduction of plastic use first of all the most important thing is to raise the level of awareness of the society. Moreover involvement of donor organizations is necessary together with the private sector and the local government for awareness.”

At the bilateral meeting attention was focused on starting future cooperation in waste management. It was noted that the management of waste of food and agricultural products is one of the priority areas for Georgia.

On the other hand Douglas Webb stated “It is important for us to implement projects that are the priority of the country.We can share European best practices with you on environmental protection, especially waste management.”

It should be noted that the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia is implementing a number of important projects in order to reduce disasters caused by climate change, improve air quality, environmental monitoring and reporting system with assitance from  the UN Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting was attended by UNDP’s Environmental Protection and Energy Directorate Nino Antadze and Head of the National Environment Agency Vasil Gedvanishvili.
