Tbilisi: Nino Thandilashvili, the first deputy minister of environment protection and agriculture of Georgia attended the meeting of the board of the Climate Green Fund Board. She raised the issues of easy access to financial resources of green climate funds for the maximum countries.

The Georgian Minister drew attention to the importance of increasing countries’ access to the Green Climate Council’s financial resources to effectively involve them in the processes to counter the climate change threat.

While addressing the attendees  Nino Thandilashvili added “The region of Eastern Europe  in terms of attracting financial resources from the fund  still could not keep up pace with other regions , even though the region is facing significant challenges due to climate change.

At the same time  these challenges have become more visible against the background of increasing natural disasters. Considering all this  it is necessary to improve the regional access to financing of the Green Climate Fund and effective involvement of countries in the projects.”

All the stakeholders discussed the issues of program financing, partnership with the fund, accessibility  and simplification of the fund’s accreditation process at the meeting. The Georgian minister again highlighted the importance of open access to the fund for the countries.

It is worth noting that Nino Thandilashvili has been  representing the Eastern European region of the country on the board of the Green Climate Fund from January 2023. The First Deputy Minister is also the Chairman of the Council’s Accreditation Committee.

It should be noted that the Accreditation Committee is actively working on issues of simplification of accreditation procedures so that maximum countries can benefit from this. Simplified procedures serve to implement projects to combat climate change with the funds raised from the fund.

At the same time it should be noted that at the regular 39th meeting  the Council approved 17 new projects worth 1 billion dollars worldwide  which will contribute to the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures. The other participants of the meeting  shared their personal views on this occasion with others.
