Georgia: The meeting of the Committee of Ecological Security with the President was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia on March 15, 2024. At the Academy of Sciences, academician Nodar Kekelidze discussed national and international projects of the TSU Institute of Material Sciences.
There the Director of the Institute of Material Sciences of Academician Nodar Kekelidze Tbilisi State University of Sciences presented a report on the topic: “Research of Substances named after Academician Nodor Kekelidze National and international projects of that scientific and research institute in Georgia, The challenges of the environment”.
The reporter spoke about the Institute’s structure, research priorities, partnerships with foreign and local universities and companies, and work completed and ongoing grant projects. It was noted that the project “Monitoring of South Caucasus River”, funded under the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) “Science for Peace” Program (SFP), as well as other projects and programs, is intensively used to study environmental challenges in Georgia. More than 40 national and international grant projects have been completed.
The scientific results are reflected in more than 30 articles published in high-rated, impact-factor journals and more than 20 presentations read at international conferences. During the meeting, which was attended by academics, famous scientists, and guests, a discussion was held.
Particularly interesting was the discussion on the projects: “Complex research of antioxidants and mineral components in Georgian red wines with modern physical-chemical methods of analysis”, “Solar-based sustainable pesticide-free technology for Georgian small and medium wine producers for export-oriented bio-organic wine production” and “Ozonation effect of Georgian red wine About the chemical composition of Ebi, wineskins, grape parts, and soil”.
At the end of the session, the speaker answered questions from the attending public and made qualified suggestions for planning and cooperation for future work. They addressed the attending community with a summary speech: Academician Vladimir Tsitsishvili and the learned secretary of the commission, Professor Mikheil Gogebashvili.
