Number of Passengers served at Georgian Airports increases by 30%

According to the data summarized by the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, in January-June 2024, Georgian airports served 3,220,599 passengers on regular and irregular flights, which is 30% higher than the number of passengers received in a similar period of 2023 and 29% more than the number of tourists received in January-June 2019.

According to the data summarized by the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA), in January-June 2024, Georgian airports served 3,220,599 passengers on regular and irregular flights, which is 30% higher than the number of passengers received in a similar period of 2023 and 29% more than the number of tourists received in January-June 2019.

In the first six months of 2024, Tbilisi International Airport served 2 124 599 passengers. The growth is 36% compared to the analog period of 2023 and 14% compared to January-June 2019. Seven hundred forty-five thousand eight hundred ninety-five passengers were transported through Kutaisi International Airport.

The increase in passenger numbers compared to the first six months of 2023 is 12%, and compared to a similar period in 2019, Kutaisi Airport served more than 104% of passengers. Batumi International Airport served 334 437 passengers. The growth is 41% compared to January-March 2023 and 35% compared to the first three months of 2019.

During the first six months of this year, 14,682 flights were completed at Georgian airports. The increase in flights was 33% compared to the first six months of 2023 and 20% compared to the similar period of 2019.

Regarding the use of Georgian airspace, compared to the first six months of 2023, the rate of Georgian airspace use increased by 30% and 102% compared to the similar period of 2019. In total, 130 498 units of flyover were recorded during the accounting period.

There are positive dynamics in terms of air freight transportation. In January-June 2024, the volume of cargo transported by air amounted to 1,1022.855 tons. Compared to the first half of 2023, load shedding increased by 23%.

Wizz Air continues to lead the Georgian aviation market regarding the number of passengers transported in January- June 2024. The airline holds a 17% market share, with 553,744 passengers transferred. Other top airlines in terms of passenger numbers and percentage share on regular and charter flights include Turkish Airlines (9%, 286,979 passengers), Pegasus (8%, 262,542 passengers), Georgian Airways (7%, 232,890 passengers), and Azerbaijan Airlines (6%, 192,773 passengers).

As of July 1, 2024, 54 airlines operate on 105 airlines in Georgian airports.
