Givi Matcharashvili, the Georgian freestyle wrestler has created history. The Georgian wrestler entered the semi-final after defeating his opponent by 11:0.
In an almost one-sided match played between Givi Matcharashvili and his opponent from Ukraine Murazi Mchedlidze, he recorded the win with 11:0. The Ukraine wrester faced Murazi Mchedlidze could not give any fight to the Givi Matcharashvili and easily defeated.
This was a quarterfinal match in the 97-kilogram weight category between two heavyweight players from the respective countries. However the Georgian wrestler proved his experience and skill by grounding the opponent without any difficulty.
It is worth mentioning that Georgian wrestler Givi Matcharashvili will now meet Magomedkhan Magomedov who is competing on behalf of Azerbaijan. This semifinal match will decide who will advance to the final and Givi Matcharashvili is very confident about his success after his victory in the quarterfinal.
Notably in another match Givi Macharashvili beat South African Nicholas de Lange with a score of 12:2 in the round of 16 at the debut Olympics. The 27-year-old Georgian athlete has already won two bronze medals at the World Championship and two gold medals at the European Championship.
On the other hand another wresterler from Georgia Geno Petriashvili has already made it into the final. He is all set to prove himself in the weight category of 125kg in final. In the final bout he will face the Iranian Amir Hossein Zare. This is the second Olympic game of Geno.
Georgia has won four Olympic medals so far. Georgian athletes have won medals in judo and boxing including silver medals for Judoists Tato Grigalashvili and Ilia Sulamandize, bronze medals for Lasha Bekauri who became the Olympic champion for the second time in a row and bronze medals for boxer Lasha Gurul.
The Ministry of Culture, sports, and Youth have also shared this information on their social media handle. The social media user while reacting to the Facebook post of the Ministry extended their best wishes to Geno Petriashvili and Givi Matcharashvili for the final bout. Social media users also congratulated both of them for their previous victories. One Facebook user Lali Sokhaskvili, commented, “I wish him the victory.”
