Tato Grigalashvili finally gave reason to Georgian for cheering after winning a silver medal in Judo at the Paris Olympics games. He competed against the Japanese opponent but could not clinch gold.
Tato Grigalashvili fought in the 81 kg category and this is the first Olympic medal in his career and the first medal won by any player for the Republic of Georgia in this Olympaic . In the final the Georgian judoka faced the winner of the Tokyo Olympics, Japanese Takanori Nagase.
Although he was defeated in the final he gave wonderful performances in other matches before the finals. The three-time champion of the world and Europe defeated Moldavian Mihail Latishev in the first match.
He also defeated Vahid Borchashvili of Austria in the quarterfinals, defeated Tajik Somon Mahmadbekov and in the semi-finals, he won the match against South Korean Johnhwan Lee. It is worth noting that the Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Thea Tsulukiani is in Paris and attended the Georgian athletes’ competition.
Tato Grigalashvili’s award is the 41st Olympic medal for independent Georgia. This is the 13th silver medal and also the 13th medal in judo. Tato Grigalashvili is the 34th athlete who won an Olympic medal on behalf of Georgia.
The Government of Georgia will give each Olympic champion 1,000,000 GEL, the silver medalist 500,000 GEL and the bronze prize winner an amount of 250,000 GEL.
The Ministry of Culture took to its social media pages and shared a glimpse of the event. Ministry officials personally congratulated Tato Grigalashvili for making the country proud. The ministry has launched many programs and schemes to promote sports culture in the country. The local tournament is being organized to motivate young sports talents in schools and colleges.
On the other hand social media user also extended their best wishes to Tato Grigalashvili while reacting to a Facebook post of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture. While competing Koba Obolashvili stated “Congratulations ” Another Facebook user Tamari Abesadze, while extending best wishes wrote “Good luck always to Tato.”
