The chair of Georgia’s central election commission, Giorgi Kalandasishvili condemned the personal attack by members of the United National Movement in a press conference.
He claimed the personal attack proves there is no evidence from the opposition to prove the election fraud allegation.
It is worth noting that since the election results were declared many opposition parties, NGOs and Civil Society organizations have been blaming the Georgian Dream-led Government for the election fraud during the recently concluded election of Georgia’s parliament.
The election for Georgia’s parliament was held last month on October 26, 2024. After the election results the Georgian Dream was declared the winner for the second time in a row. However the President of Georgia did not recognise the election results. Moreover she blamed the Georgian Dream for election-related fraud.
On the other hand the Georgian Dream rejected all such allegations and commented that the whole election process was fair and transparent. The Central Election Commission’s comments came today after the UNM leader’s attack. He further said that there is no proof supporting the opposition’s allegation about the manipulated election results.
Notably in the meeting of CEC, a memebr of the United National Movement opposition party was heard through an unidentified substance on Kalandasishvili. The attacker said that this was his way of protesting against the falsified election result of the Georgia parliament.
The CEC chair while speaking further added that this isolated evidence can not prove anythong wrong. He underlined that this act of one of the opposition party’s leaders once again proved that all the opposition parties’ claims were false and without any evidence.
On the other hand the chair of Central Election Commission blamed the Georgian opposition parties for creating unnecessary disturbance. He said all these incidents of violence by opposition parties were just an attempt to influence the election process, which was conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
Meanwhile the Georgian election commission ended the session. The session was resumed after the attack and the announcement was made by Kalandarishvili that the election period was over.
