Irakli Kobakhidze the Prime Minister has chaired a meeting of Government Commission of Higher Education Reform. The meeting was held to address pressing challenges in higher education system of the country.
At this meeting attendees shed light on two critical aspects of Georgia education system. The first one was the infrastructure development and other was the quality of education.
The government of Georgia is executing many programs with aim to undertake a comprehensive transformation of higher education especially university education.
The efforts are being taken to ensure students receive an education that aligns with European standards which will enhance their employment.
While speaking on this occasion the PM Kobakhidze underlined to bring immediate and systemic reforms to enhance the overall structure and effectiveness of higher education institutions throughout country.
At the same time PM while recognizing need of other reform stressed that, “The commission will soon develop a concept that will serve as the foundation for the upcoming higher education reforms in country as well.”
The proposed reforms are aimed to address infrastructural issues in Georgian universities. According to the Prime Minister till the year 2028, it will be possible to resolve major infrastructure issues and significantly enhance the quality of teaching and research in Georgian higher educational system.
However, to make this goal reality there will be need to develop a collaboration between government institutions, universities, and educational stakeholders.
By improving learning environments, Georgia aims to create an academic setting conducive to high-level research and innovation so that students can get easy jobs in international companies also.
Along with other things the commission also underscored the importance of elevating the standards of higher education to meet European benchmarks as it will help students of country aspiring for European Integration.
The other focus of the Commission is to ensuring students receive an education of international quality. Similarly, by focusing on both infrastructure improvements and academic excellence, the reforms being highlighted vowed to build a higher education system that supports research, fosters innovation and prepares students for the global job market.
