Georgia: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, visited Bayford’s Farm in St Peters on Thursday, July 18, 2024, and took a tour of the farm’s products.
The PM was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins, and a delegation from Southern University. The university delegation, known for its expertise in agricultural research, was invited to provide understanding and recommendations for the farm’s development. Â
He was glad to see the growth at the farm and added that the place means a lot to the people of St. Peter’s. The visit also featured the Ministry of Agriculture, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and a delegation from Southern University. Â
Terrance Drew recalled his childhood memories of spending time at Bayford. His personal connection to the farm, a place of great importance to the people of St. Peter’s, was evident in his unwavering commitment to revive it, instilling hope in the community. Â
Prime Minister Drew was notably impressed with the developments observed during the visit and said he was pleased to say they are well on their way. He also shared glimpses of the visit on his official Facebook page.
The tour’s purpose was to explore opportunities for fostering collaboration aimed at advancing the skillsets of our agricultural workforce.
Sammal Duggins also mentioned, “Diversifying our economy through agriculture is critical to ensuring sustainable growth and resilience. Investing in projects like the Bayford Livestock Farm and the Poultry Hatchery creates new opportunities for employment, innovation, and food security. Our collaborative efforts with educational institutions and international partners will further strengthen our agricultural sector, providing a solid foundation for economic diversification.”
He also added that he is enthusiastic about their progress and the collaborative efforts that lie ahead, which will undoubtedly enhance their agricultural sector and help them achieve their 25 by 25 agenda.
