The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, visited St. Vincent and the Grenadines to meet Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves along with all other Prime Ministers of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The Prime Ministers of OECS with whom Terrance Drew visited St. Vincent and Grenadines are the Prime Minister of Dominica – Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia – Philip J Pierre, the Prime Minister of Grenada – Dickon Mitchell, and the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda – Gaston Browne.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Skerrit, participated in a press briefing at the Argyle International Airport on July 15 alongside Grenadian Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. PM Skerrit mentioned his visit to St Vincent And The Grenadines. He said, “I am in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to tour the affected areas in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.”

It is to be noted that the Category 4 Hurricane Beryl caused massive damage in St Vincent and the Grenadines on July 10, having sustained winds of over 150 mph, which left one dead and thousands homeless.

In addition to this, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis took pictures while flying over Union Island and said, “That was pure destruction.”

Dr. Drew’s urgent message is clear, “We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the affected islands. Climate change is not a distant threat; it’s here. This is a stark reminder that we must prepare and do it now.”

He also stated that they have already begun their preparedness and will continue to ensure their readiness for future challenges.

Furthermore, PM Drew’s call for unity is clear, “Let’s come together as a people and a country for any eventuality.” This reminds everyone that they are all part of a community and share a collective responsibility to prepare for and respond to such disasters.
