Georgia: Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili claims that he intends to meet EU conditions to receive candidate status. Garibashvili said this at a briefing held at the government administration.
According to Garibashvili, the government is “mobilized” for the “timely” fulfilment of these conditions.
“We heard yesterday the assessments of European leaders, their promise, their statement that as soon as we meet the priorities set by them, Georgia will be granted candidate status. This gives us additional motivation to fulfil all the conditions, all the priorities that “We are ready for that. We are ready for that. I want to say that our government is mobilized to fulfil all the conditions set by the EU in order to get the candidate status as soon as possible,” Gharibashvili said.
The European Council has granted candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova but not to Georgia. The Council recognized Georgia’s European perspective and said it was ready to grant candidate status as soon as the set priorities were met.
The Commission recommends that Georgia adopt a European perspective and that certain conditions be met before it can be granted status.
