Georgia: The prime minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, opened the House of Justice in Terjola on 31 October 2024, together with the Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze.

The prime minister congratulated the people of Terjola on the opening of the new Justice House and noted that the locals will receive more than 500 government services in the building of the highest standards.

He said that until 2012, only 12 justice houses were functioning in the country, and after 2012, 111 were opened. The Terjoli branch in Imereti is the 26th and 123rd justice house in the country.

The PM also mentioned that 10 additional judicial houses are planned to open by the end of next year, after which the whole country will have judicial services.

Kobakhidze thanked the Ministry of Justice and Minister Rati Bregadze for increasing the pace of infrastructure construction. Until 2012, the Ministry of Justice was one of the most influential circles of the repressive system, and today, the content of the organization is remarkably different.

It was the Minister of Justice and the Ministry who turned the judiciary into one of the repressive machine rings. People were being arrested, illegally arrested, and convicted of sentences; the statistics for judicial sentences were less than 0.1 percent, etc.

A property transformation has been underway. More than 10,000 businessmen were transferred to the state, and the Ministry of Justice at the time was at the epicenter of all this.

Irakli Kobakhidze also mentioned that before 2012, when the Ministry of Justice ruled the judicial system, everyone remembered what was happening in the country and in the prisons.

The number of prisoners due to the repressive system was almost 25,000, and the death rate was extremely high. More than 140 people die in prisons every year, which was the result of the regime that was formed in prisons at that time. Prisons were the worst, the treatment of prisoners was the worst, and torturing people and inhumane treatment of them was common practice. The soul of all this was the then Minister of Justice and Ministry.

Only 12 Justice Houses were functioning across the country and were trying to compensate for the torture system that was operating under the Justice Department.

The judiciary has gained independence, and the new statistics on the judiciary show how many times the appeal in the Strasbourg court has been reduced, which means that the judicial system is humane and free from political control.

In addition, the number of prisoners has been reduced by 2.5 times, and work is underway to reduce it even further. Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze and Parliamentary Majority Leader Mamuka Mdinaradze spoke at the event and visited the newly opened Justice House.
