Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia and another representative of the Government paid tribute to the victims of the Shovi incident. PM on Saturday paid tribute to those who died during a fatal landslide incident in western Georgia’s Shovi resort last year.
While offering her respect and tribute to the victim the PM stated that “Those were very difficult days. We all still remember those harder days when incidents took away many precious lives and damaged property as well. I once again would like to extend my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.”
Prime Minister Kobakhidze further states, “ That incident has shaken the whole country. We all have the big responsibility to express our sympathy to those who were affected by this tragedy.” According to the Prime Minister, There are many requests to make the rehabilitation work of the tragedy a priority. The government is committed to doing everything for the victims’ families so that they can live normal lives once again without any hurdles.
The Prime Minister also announced the establishment of a memorial for the victims. Moreover the PM announced the building of a church in memory of the victim expressing “a little compassion” for the family members.
Meanwhile Bishop Vakhtang of Nikortsminda who was present on the occasion along with the Prime Minister performed a funeral service in memory of the people who had died. He prayed for the peace of the victims souls and blessed the foundation of the church which had been named after Thirteen Assyrian Fathers.
The Prime Minister also said that an information meeting will be held in the coming days. This meeting will involve the family members of the victims to get information. Furthermore the meeting will also discuss the measures for helping these families.
The PM also urged the family members of the victims to come forward and share the information with the administration so that welfare efforts can be executed effectively by the government as well.
Notably thirty-three people lost their lives in a landslide disaster which hit the Shovi resort on August 3, 2023. The victim family members were also present on the occasion.
