PM Kobakhidze  offers  tribute to victims of Abkhazia war  

Prime Minister of the Republic of Georgia  today paid tribute to the victims of the Abkhazia war and paid tribute to the 16 individuals who went missing during the 1992-1993 armed conflict .

Tbilisi: Irakli Kobakhidze  the Prime Minister of the Republic of Georgia  today paid tribute to the victims of the Abkhazia war. He paid tribute to the 16 individuals who went missing during the 1992-1993 armed conflict in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region.

 

PM offered tribute as their remains were received in the country’s capital, Tbilisi. The Prime Minister  accompanied by Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and many other higher Government officials  visited the Holy Trinity Cathedral. They were also joined by the official of the Parliament for a service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi  the capital city.

 

It is worth mentioning that the remains belong to seven combatants of the Georgian defense forces. At the same time the remains have also been received of the nine civilians. They all went missing since the conflict.

The remains of all the missing personnel reached the country after the joint efforts in the latest phase of the State Ministry for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

 

As per the information shared by the official familiar with the matter the remains of the four combatants will be buried at the Dighomi Cemetery of Brothers. However  the remains of the other victims will be laid to rest at various locations as per the demands of their families. It may be buried in the family graveyards if the family wishes to do the same.

 

According to the government authorities the remains of 621 people have been found. At the same time  the remains of 316 have been identified so far. This becomes possible under the coordination mechanism of different ministries and agencies of the central government.

The mechanism will make collective efforts to find the remains of many people whereas 2000 people are still missing. The coordination mechanism was formed in 2010 to identify the missing person.

Notably  the high-scale violation of human rights was reported during the war. The Prime Minister stressed that the government will make every effort to identify the other missing person. He also salutes the sacrifice of the people.
