The opening of the 3rd section of the Samtredia-Grigoleti expressway is further proof that the expressways in Georgia are being built and developed at a fast pace. Irakli Kobakhidze inaugurated the new section of the Samtredia–Grigoleti Expressway. He noted that their main goal is to complete this work at a fast pace.
The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze shared a glimpse of the opening event on its Official facebook Page on July 18, 2026, Saturday. The PM also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.
The head of government noted that the construction of highways is going on actively throughout the country and 389 kilometers of expressway are already in operation today, while the work on 60 kilometers is continuing at a rapid pace.
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, noted, “Until 2012, only 68 km of express highway was built in Georgia, and that too – the easiest section. Samtredia-Grigoleti highway works will be finished next year, and a total of 52 km will be built. The new route bypasses a densely populated area.”
“As a result, travel time is reduced by almost a third, increasing safety and efficiency of shipments. Highway construction will continue across the country. The remaining part of Grigoleti-Kobuleti will be opened this year,” he noted.
“Within the framework of the historical project of Kubsheti-Kobi – the road to Gudauri. An international tender has already been announced on Tbilisi’s 49-kilometer bypass road and Batumi-Sarpi highway. These are the most important projects that will significantly increase sustainability in the country,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
The Georgian PM attended the event together with members of the Georgian Government and Parliament, local government, business representatives, and young people.
