Castries, Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, announced the schedule for the celebrations of the 44th Independence Anniversary of the country. As PM Pierre announced, the Saint Lucia Independence Day festivities will commence on February 22, 2023, at 9 am.Â
The Independence Celebrations will begin with the Military Parade at 9 am from The Saab. About the parade, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr Mashama K. Sealy, stated thatÂ
“Parade will Celebrate the men and women who have dedicated their lives for the safety and protection of our sovereign nation marching and coming together as one powerful force for good.”
 It will be followed by National Independence Rally, set to kick off from Castries Waterfront. Another fascinating event, namely Seafood Fiesta, will be held at the Fisheries complex and will begin from 10 am to 8 pm. It will include seafood on sale and a special kids zone as well.
For kids, another Kiddies Fun Zone will be organized at the Heroes Park. Further, there will be the Carenage Craze event, which will begin at 11:30 am at the Castries Waterfront.Â
The National Carnival Queen 2022, Xenia Douglas, called on citizens to attend the event, stating- “Feel the full spirit of our people, voices, together. One Family, One Destination.”
PM Pierre urged the citizens to enjoy the day to the fullest, along with their family members. He also called on citizens to wear the National Flag colours on a special day for the country, stating, “Make it a family fun-day. Wear your National flag colours“.
Additionally, PM Pierre updated the citizens about the traffic routes that would operate or where the diversions will be in effect.
 PM Pierre wrote: “Motorists are asked to note that there will be no vehicular access from Tuesday, February 21 at 7:00 pm to February 23 at 4:00 am via Jeremie Street from the Vendor’s Arcade to the Castries Waterfront and the Saab via the John Compton Highway. We apologize for any inconvenience that this closure may cause.“
