Dublanc, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit hosted the National Rally to mark the 70th anniversary of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) on June 1, 2025, Sunday. At the event he highlighted the journey and role of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in the development of the island nation.
Notably, the Dominica Labour Party is the current ruling party of the nation, which is being led by Dr Roosevelt Skerrit at the moment. In his address, the PM talked about the advancements made by the Dominican Labour Party, especially in the healthcare sector.
PM Skerrit stated that they have witnessed improvements in the healthcare delivery to all citizens which is a result of healthcare professional training and healthcare facility investment. He further noted that in addition to improving the living standards of young people, these facilities have also benefited older people and children by providing them easy access to emergency services.
He also noted that these healthcare facilities were free, especially for the Dominicans and the government’s contributions should be deeply honored for providing these services. He added that the main aim of DLP was to help those who cannot help themselves.
In his address at the National Rally, the PM also conveyed his sincere gratitude towards Dominica and his colleagues Dominica Labour Party (DLP). He also thanked the citizens of the nation who were present at the national rally.
However, the ruling political party of Dominica, the Labour Party completed its 70 years of existence, on May 24, 2025, and the national rally to celebrate this was held on Sunday, at the Dublanc Playing Field in the Colihaut Constituency.
The Event was attended by several leaders from across the Caribbean region. The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley also attended the celebration as the special guest.
PM Skerrit greeted the Prime Minister of Barbados and appreciated her by saying that she was the best Prime Minister he had ever known. Also to note is the fact that Mia Mottley is also a very good friend of Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit recognized the relationship between Dominica and Barbados which was demonstrated through the support Barbados gave to Dominica in times of crisis like the 2017 Hurricane Erica and 2017 Hurricane Maria.
Moreover, PM Skerrit appreciated what Mottley did for the development of strong bilateral relations between the two island nations. Also, he said that he is very grateful to Mottley for her exceptional leadership which she brought to the people of her nation.
Also at the same time, it is important to report that this milestone brought together party members, supporters, and citizens from all over Dominica in a display of unity, resilience, and shared vision.
