In the Marneuli municipality, a person was injured following a stabbing at a shop. Following the fight, a suspect ran away but was later detained by police.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the arrest was carried out by the staff of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Marneuli Regional Authority. As noted in the investigation, the detained person was conversing with another man in a shop in the municipality, when the dialogue got out of control. After which the suspected person inflicted a bodily injury using a bladed weapon . He has been taken to hospital and is under their care. It is not known how the man is.
However, the police made operative actions and searches several hours after the events. Within a few hours they found and detained the alleged offender, an arrest that the ministry pointed to the ‘hot trail’, i.e. shortly after the alleged crime.
The police seized the knife that is thought to have been used in the attack. The blade was handed in as evidence.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (intentional grave injury to health ).The article prescribes a term of punishment from one to seven years of prison.
The store and ages of the presumed victim and suspect have not been identified by the ministry. It has not been said whether the men knew each other or were having a fight over something. The ministry did not say whether the two men knew each other but that may be revealed in the coming days.
The individual from Georgia who is arrested will typically then be interviewed by the judge and file a motion with the courts to hold the individual in some form of preventative detention such as pretrial detention until the investigation is finished. The police may interview witnesses of any witnesses, the police may obtain video tapes from the stores involved in the incident, and the police may obtain the medical records that document the victim’s injuries.
Like any other criminal case the accused is presumed to be innocent until convicted.
Here’s evidence of how quickly a heat of the moment argument can turn into a knockout that has life changing consequences. Officers will even tell us to fight or fly, and then ask us to call them instead.
Kvemo Kartli Police Department reports that investigation is still underway. During the appeal the police also addressed all witnesses.
