Tbilisi: The Georgian police have recovered huge quantities (52 kg) of Cocaine during their drive against the drug trafficking. The police claimed it was one of the largest transnational cases associated with drugs.
The Head of the Central Criminal Police Department, Teimuraz Kupatadze of the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, shared the information on this big recovery of narcotics. He stated that the drugs were concealed inside a shipping container loaded with bananas. The container was transported from Ecuador to Europe through Georgia. According to him law enforcement agencies are working to identify individuals involved in the case.
According to him the police officers had also busted the largest internet drug sale stores that had supplied over 50 percent of drugs in the black market. The store was being run by a Georgian citizen who had been arrested. The law enforcement officer during the search seizes 27,000 pills of the narcotic drug Ecstasy in total amounting to 12 kilograms.
Till now nearly 77 individuals have been arrested on drug-related charges. They include 23 for drug dealing in cases spanning “over a recent period” with the nationality of Georgia, India, Iran, Nigeria, Russia, and Turkey.
The Department Head further stated that the police in its drive seize “ especially large amounts” of narcotics and psychotropic drugs. These drugs also included heroin, cocaine, MDMA, Alpha PVP, methamphetamine, Methadone, and other substances from locations that were disclosed by the offenders after the preliminary investigation.
Some quality drugs were also recovered during searches of the individuals, residential houses, and vehicles related to them. At the same time “large amount” of money allegedly obtained from drug sales (drug money ) by the group has also been recovered. The arrested person has been charged with many charges under the different provisions of the Georgian criminal code. If the accused is found guilty after the trial, they can be sentenced to up to 20 years of Jail term as punishment.
