Roseau, Dominica: The 48th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government was held from February 19 to 21, 2025, Wednesday, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in the capital city of Barbados, Bridgetown. The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit also participated in the meeting along with other Caribbean leaders.
It is worth noting that the theme of the conference was “”Strength in Unity: Forging Caribbean Resilience, Inclusive Growth, and Sustainable Development.
The opening ceremony of the 48th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government was held on February 19, 2025, and it was attended by several Caribbean leaders.
The Prime Minister of Dominica believed that this CARICOM meeting would surely promote regional collaboration and it did so and it is to be mentioned that regional cooperation was needed for discussing various critical issues such as climate change, crime, and food security.
It is worth noting that, during the two-day summit, various crucial matters including maritime and air transport, as well as reparations were also consulted.
The PM shared the details about his participation in the 48th CARICOM meeting on his official Facebook page on February 20, 2025, Tuesday. Along with the details, he also shared glimpses of the meeting.
On his social media handles the PM wrote, “I joined my colleague CARICOM Heads at the Opening Ceremony of the 48th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Bridgetown, Barbados on Wednesday.”
According to the PM, the meeting focused on climate change, food and nutrition security, financial sustainability, the ongoing challenges in Haiti, regional security, digital resilience, and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Roosevelt Skerrit mentioned that this year, the meeting marked the 48th regular meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government and it was an important platform for regional leaders to discuss and address common issues of interest.
While Prime Minister Skerrit is away, Hon. Dr. Irving McIntyre, Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security, took the role of Acting Prime Minister.
