In Georgia, the Economy Minister announced on Thursday, March 31, that a €1.3 million initiative on road safety has come into effect with the support of the European Union (EU).
The initiative taken by the Georgian Government will help in the Establishment of the Comprehensive Road Safety Database and Further Improvement of Road Safety Management in the country, and it will aim to contribute to the Establishment of European practices in the field.
According to Deputy Economy Minister Guram Guramishvili, the project’s effective execution will have a “good influence” on Georgia’s efforts to overcome road safety concerns.
Moreover, as part of the Association Agreement signed in 2014 between Georgia and the EU, the initiative will also focus on improving traffic accident data collection as well as analysis-based approaches at the institutional level.
The project’s objectives also include developing an effective road safety management system, establishing a National Trauma Registry and an effective data management system, and enhancing the competence of national institutions working in the field of road safety.
The project is being implemented by Poland and Lithuania organizations, while the main beneficiaries of this project are the Georgian Economy Ministry, Interior Ministry, and the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health.
