Georgia: The work on the 50.1 km section continues intensively within the framework of the project to improve the conditions of the 72 km of Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road.
This project is of significant importance to the local communities as it will enhance connectivity, improve road safety, and boost economic opportunities.
The project is a comprehensive endeavor, encompassing the restoration of the road profile, addressing watering and waterlogging issues, managing artificial garbage, complete restoration of traffic control techniques and land vacancy, ensuring traffic safety, and implementing bouldering restrictions.
The Tusheti road project is divided into eight sections; six contracts have already been signed, which include works to improve the traffic conditions of up to a 50 km section. The total cost is 51.6 million GEL. For the remaining two sections, which cover the 15 km stretch, the works will begin step by step and are expected to be completed soon.
The first 22.5 km of the Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo highway will be covered in asphalt. Following the relief, other pavement sections will remain ground, damaged areas will be repaired, and existing parameters will be improved.
At this stage, in the first section, the construction of reinforced concrete water pipes, ground vac, reinforced concrete and gabion support walls, and protective concrete water pipe installation works are underway. These works are crucial for the road’s stability and safety.
The only way to reach Tusheti is the Pshaveli-Omalo motorway, which starts from the village Pshaveli of Telavi municipality and connects to Omalo through the Bath Pass. The road of Tusheti was taken in the 60s-70s of the last century. This road goes through the Bath Pass, located 2950 meters above sea level. Due to heavy relief and meteorological conditions, road traffic is possible for about 4-5 months a year.
Their commitment to completing the Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo road traffic conditions improvement project by 2025 is unwavering. They are dedicated to delivering this vital project on time and to the highest standards.
