Levan Ioseliani, the Public Defender of the Republic of Georgia  congratulates the citizens of Georgia on Constitution Day. Georgia adopted the constitution on August 24, 1995.

While extending his wishes  the Public Defender  expressed hopes that people will obey their duty to protect the values of the Constitution. He also added that the country’s supreme law protects and regulates the legal rights of society as a whole.

He also stated that each member of the country had contributed to establishing fundamental norms for the democratic development of the country as well as for the establishment of economic freedom, social justice  and a legal state.

It is worth noting that the second chapter of the Constitution of Georgia deals with basic human rights  on the basis of which the Public Defender supervises the protection of human rights and freedoms on Georgian territory, reveals the facts of their violation  and promotes the restoration of violated rights.

The Georgian Parliament adopted the Constitution of Georgia on August 24, 1995  based on the historical-legal heritage of the 1921 Constitution. A great struggle was   behind the implementation of the Constitution.

Although the parliament adopted the constitution on August 24  it came into force only on 17 October 1995. The basic ideas adopted in the latest constitution were borrowed from the constitution of 1921.

On the other hand  all the prominent figures of the country  including the President and Prime Minister also congratulated the people on Georgia’s Constitution Day.  Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze who took to his social media handles  shared a picture of the national flag of Georgia to show respect for the country’s constitutional symbols.

Social media users  while reacting to the Facebook posts of the Prime Minster  extended their best wishes as well. One Facebook user  Maia Jokhadze  commented  “May God enable us to make our beautiful country a strong state. Happy Constitution Day!.”

Another user commented “Happy Constitution Day ” tagging the Prime Minister in the comment section. Events are being held across the country to mark the historic day.
