Tbilisi: The officials and representatives of the office of Public defender of Georgia visiting detained people in different prisons. The officials till now have approached to 40 people and received information about exact reason of their detention by law enforcement agencies.
Notably trustees have visited a total of 40 people and has already provided information about 11 of them to the public. Yesterday the public defender’s commissioners visited an additional 29 persons detained. One of the detainees is placed in the Samtredia temporary detention isolation unit and others in Tbilisi isolation unit.
Trustees visited journalist Guram Rogava also. According to Guram Rogava, he was performing his duty at the protest, when law enforcers physically abused him, resulting in losing his mind. The Public Defender’s Office immediately addressed the special investigation service regarding the violent acts against Guram Rogava.
It is also to noted that out of 29 visited persons, 23 persons pointed out about inappropriate treatment (7 persons do not want to react). According to most of them, the police officers hurled physical abuse directly during the arrest process.
Some of them also pointed out verbal abuse by law enforcement officers. Some of the detainees were visibly marked with physical injuries for example, one detainee had multiple superficial injuries in his area, another detainee had injuries on his face and right eyebrow.
According to some detainees their arrests were made by the staff of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who were handing over to other employees later on who also did not have special identification marks, after which they were handed over to the patrol police.
The patrol police were taking them to the administrative building of the police, where the documentation of their administrative arrests began. According to some of the detainees, the detainees were referring to false information and in particular to the police officers, who did not immediately arrest them by using abusive language against them.
