Tbilisi: Anthony Blinken, the US secretary of state issued a statement in favour of Georgian people. He said in statement that we are always with Georgian people and condemned any violation of their rights by ruling party.
As per the statement of secretary of state, “The United States of America has been a partner of Georgia and Georgian people for more than twenty years. Our partnership is based on the love of freedom and democracy, as well as the desire to see Georgia in the Euro-Atlantic family. We have worked with Georgian governments and Georgian people to develop Georgian economy.”
The statement further underlined that, “We also supported the Georgian government for developing its education system, strengthen defence capabilities, expand healthcare and agriculture sectors. The United States is a firm supporter of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and our devotion to the brave people of Georgia and their Euro-Atlantic aspirations is as strong as an iron.”
It is to be added that as per statement, “The United States of America strongly condemns the cruel and unjustified violence of the Georgian Dream against Georgian citizens, protesters, media members and opposition representatives. We urge Georgian Dream to stop repressive tactics, including self-arrest and use of physical violence to silence their critics.”
The statement stressed that, we are particularly concerned about reports of serious harm to people by law enforcement agencies. Those detained for protecting the right of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression should be released immediately and those responsible for the illegal use of force must be held accountable.
Notably the United States of America expresses solidarity with the Georgian people and their democratic aspirations. Those who undermine democratic processes or institutions in Georgia – including those who restrict Georgian citizens’ right to assemble peacefully and freedom of expression – lose their responsibilities.
In addition to continuing a comprehensive review of previously announced bilateral cooperation, the United States is now preparing to release the tools at its disposal including additional sanctions.
