Georgia hosts 244,293 overseas travelers in April 2022

Georgia: The Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA) on Wednesday announced that a total of 244,293 international travelers visited Georgia in April 2022, marking a 37.7 per cent recovery from the pre-pandemic 2019 figure and an increase of 184.9 per cent year-on-year.

According to the data revealed by GNTA, the number of international tourists who visited Georgia was 182,38 – marking a 52.3 per cent recovery for the same period of 2019 and a 140.5 per cent increase compared to the same period of last year. 

In April 2022, the highest number of visits were reported from the following countries:

• Turkey – 35,959 visits
• Russia – 33,556 visits
• Armenia – 32,228 visits
• Georgia (non-resident) – 20,936 visits
• Israel – 15,709 visits
• Ukraine – 13,018 visits 
• Azerbaijan – 11,360 visits
• Belarus – 7,507 visits
• Kazakhstan – 6,032 visits
• Iran – 5,994 visits

In the first four months of this year, a total of 820,796 international travellers visited the country, an increase of 272.3 per cent compared to the same period of last year and a 36.2 per cent recovery compared to 2019.

According to the Administration, in total, 642,343 foreign tourist visits were registered in January-April in Georgia, marking a 233.9 increase year on year and a 52.2 recovery from the pre-pandemic figure.

Furthermore, the tourism sector always plays an essential role for any government as it bolsters the economic growth in the country. Tourism increases economic revenue, creates more employment, improves a country’s infrastructure, and fosters cultural exchange between Foreigners and locals.

Georgia has many places of attraction such as Old Town (Altstadt), Tbilisi, Batumi Botanical Gardens, Kutaisi market, Lake Rica, Aerial Tramway in Tbilisi, Batumi Dolphinarium.
