The Acting Director of the Agroservice Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Adjara, Mirza Suknishvili, inspected the ongoing rehabilitation works on the Okropilauri irrigation canal in Shuakhevi municipality.
The Georgian Agroservice Center shared glimpses of the ongoing rehabilitation works on its official Facebook Page on August 21, 2026, Friday. A small note about the works was also shared along with its glimpses.
As part of the reclamation systems management program, workers are cleaning sand and gravel from the concrete open channel at the head of the Okropilauri irrigation canal. Also, soil is being removed in the landslide areas to install corrugated and metal pipes.
The length of the Okropilauri irrigation canal is 5.9 kilometers. After the rehabilitation works are completed, 51 families will benefit from the irrigation system and 18 hectares of agricultural land will be irrigated.
According to the glimpses shared by the Agroservice Centre of Georgia, it should be noted that the rehabilitation of the land reclamation infrastructure will contribute to the efficient use of agricultural lands, increase yields, and improve the agricultural activities of the local population.
In total, 127.36 kilometers of irrigation canals will be rehabilitated in 2026. The service area of ​​the restored and improved irrigation systems will cover 1,280 hectares of agricultural land, which will benefit 1,495 families.
The goal of the rehabilitation of the irrigation infrastructure is to ensure the proper functioning of land reclamation systems, increase the capacity for efficient irrigation of agricultural lands, use land resources more productively, increase yields, and support the agricultural activities of the local population.
