Tbilisi, Georgia: The reinforcement works of the damaged road section on the left bank of Mtkvari are now underway. It aims at repairing the damaged section of the collapsed road and the pedestrian path near the restaurant “Gagri.” A construction site has already been set up in the area and geological research is being carried out.
The Mayor of the capital, Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, together with Deputy Mayor Irakli Bendeliani and the head of the infrastructure department inspected the ongoing work process. According to the mayor’s statement, it was clear that works are underway on the left bank of Mtkvari, where the road collapsed.
Tbilisi Municipality City Hall published the snippets of the working visit on their official Facebook page on 17 April 2025, Thursday. Furthermore, the municipality will also disseminate information about the project on the official sources about the changeinof the new region addresses.
According to the information shared by the Tbilisi City Hall, it should be noted that along with the mayor of the capital, Giorgi Abutidze, Head of the Civil Service for Infrastructure Development of Tbilisi City Hall, Giorgi Papava, Head of “Tbilservi Group” LLC, Zurab Ugulava, Acting Mayor of Didube and Majority Deputy Givi Chkhartishvili of the district were present on the construction site.
During the inspection works, the representative of the administration also mentioned that they are identifying the other roads that need immediate repairs.
It should be noted that the reconstruction of the road will be completed by the end of May and vehicles will be free to move. Regarding the construction of a chimney wall, the completion of the works depends on the water level, – said Kakha Kaladze.
It should be mentioned that cars will be able to drive freely once the road rehabilitation is finished by the end of May. Cracks were discovered a few days ago in a 50-meter portion of the left bank of Mtkvari’s first lane and pedestrian path. The wall along the river bank also suffered deformation.
For safety, preventive measures have been implemented promptly – limited traffic on the deformed perimeter and the production of emergency, preventive, advance-insurance work has begun.
According to the specialists of the National Environment Agency and the National Bureau of Expertise Levan Samkharauli, the situation on the road section is caused by ground and surface water. In addition, the effect of the storm on the defensive constructions and the seasonal variation of groundwater level has been affected.
Tbilisi City Hall has ordered the corporation “Black C Group” to fund the project, and the local municipality’s budget is also being utilized for the reinforcing work.
