“The restoration-rehabilitation and museum adaptation project of the Borjomi Cavalry building has been completed. The building, built in the 19th century, was restored with full respect for authenticity. The building will acquire a new function, thereby boldly responding to the demands of a museum and exhibition space of public interest, and another interesting new center of attraction will appear for Borjomi residents and vacationers,” said the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, during the completion of the rehabilitation works of the “Cavalry Building” in Borjomi.
The project of restoration and museum adaptation of the so-called Cavalry building, located in Kostava Park in Borjomi, included the works of complete rehabilitation of the building and adaptation into a museum space. Exhibition halls were arranged in the restored building, which will house part of the exhibits preserved in the Borjomi Regional Knowledge Fund.
The Gothic-style cavalry building is a cultural heritage monument, built in the 19th century. The building is made of natural stone, brick, and wood. Before rehabilitation, the building was damaged. Its rear part was partially destroyed, and the roofs between the floors and the interior were completely destroyed. During the execution of the works, special importance was attached to the maximum preservation of the cultural value and authenticity of the building with innovative approaches.
The project was implemented by the Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure with the financial support of more than 2.8 million GEL from the World Bank.
Irakli Karseladze got acquainted with the rehabilitation works of the park named after Merab Kostava, adjacent to the Cavalry building. The project is implemented by Borjomi Municipality with the funding received from the “Renewed Regions” program. The works envisage the arrangement of children’s spaces, an amphitheater, a fountain, footpaths and other necessary infrastructure.
