Georgia: A seminar on environmental issues in highway construction was held on the Department of Roads of Georgia initiative and with the support of the European Investment Bank technical assistance project.
Rapporteurs from the National Agency for Mineral Resources, National Forestry Agency, Georgian Environmental Protection, and Ministry of Agriculture attended the seminar.
During the seminar, the following environmental issues were discussed:
- Processes and legal matters for issuing licenses for the use of helpful fossil fuels
- Development of plans and conditions for reforestation
- Waste management policy, development of plans and implementation practices
- Making biodiversity monitoring plans and taking into account Belli issues during projects
The seminar was attended by the contractor and environmental specialists of the supervising companies, environmental specialists of the Department of Roads of Georgia, and representatives of the European Investment Bank technical assistance project, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank.
The special importance of environmental issues in the construction of high-speed highways was emphasized at the seminar.
The seminar aimed to share knowledge and experience on environmental issues from government agencies and ecological specialists involved in projects and to promote the sustainable and successful implementation of projects.
The Department of Roads of Georgia will continue to support such meetings and seminars to discuss environmental issues in the future.
