Here it is worth mentioning that the Arrangement cum rehabilitation of forest roads in the target regions which includes in it Guria, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti is also being carried out based on the grant agreement signed between the National Forestry Agency and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) . The project is being implemented within the framework of the ECO Georgia project with financial assistance from the Green Climate Fund (GCF)
Notably in parallel to the rehabilitation of forestry and agricultural roads the National Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture carries out the works of timber production, sorting, and stacking in “business yards” as well. In total 54 “business yards” have been set up in almost all regions of the country and the population can purchase firewood in the desired period.
The national forestry agency taking to its social media handles also shared glimpses of ongoing work. Heavy earth-moving machinery has been engaged to expedite the construction process. On the other hand many social media users expressed concern over the large scale of the tree cutting. Tree clearing has become necessary to pave the way for new road construction.
