Tbilisi: Yesterday, almost ten days after Georgia’s election, Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov denied any Russian interference in the election and expressed hope that bilateral relations will normalize soon.

In an interview with the Major media house “Russia Today,” he said, “Russia had no interest in Georgia’s internal affairs. Moreover, all allegations of Russian interference in Georgia’s October 26 election are baseless without any solid evidence.”

At the same time he accused the West of interference in Georgia’s internal matters for their vested interest. He specifically mentioned that the name of the United States of America for dragging the name of Russia in the context of the election is Georgia which is a straight lie from Western media.

According to the Russian foreign minister the US administration has been spreading baseless information by levelling false allegations against the Russian government and we condemned this practice strongly.

This is the old policy of the USA to exploit self-generated myths with regard to third countries. This is not first time Russia is being blamed by USA.

In the past whenever in any part of world party with anti-USA wins , Russia is blamed for that outcome, added foreign minister of Georgia.

In addition he underlined that we have already expressed our concerns before the internal affairs ministry of Georgia. We also red flagged Western undue pressure on the Georgian administration and on ordinary voters.

At the same time, he blamed the European Union and highlighted that the USA and the EU both are spreading false propaganda to defame Russia at the international level.

In the end, Lavrov said the Georgian voters have made their choice and elected their government without any pressure. We respect people’s mandate and are interested in normalizing our relations with Georgia soon.

Notably, since the declaration of the result, many media houses and civil society organizations have been blaming the ruling party, Georgian Dream, for elections fraud.

They are demanding an independent investigation of the allegation of fraud to extract the truth. The president of Georgia also denied recognising the results.
