Tbilisi, Georgia: The Traffic movement on Rustaveli Avenue was temporarily restricted due to the “Tbilisi Cup” cycling race on Sunday, October 19, 2025. According to Tbilisi City Hall, vehicle and public transport movement were completely halted from 09:00 to 12:00 on the section between the Olive Tree area and Freedom Square.
The restrictions are part of safety measures for the annual race, which attracts numerous local and international participants. Authorities have announced alternative routes to ease movement and minimize disruption during the event.
During the restriction period, it was possible for vehicles to travel using Giorgi Leonidze, Pavle Ingorokva, Alexander Chavchavadze, Griboedov, Baratashvili, and Tabukashvili streets.
At the same time, it was possible to get to Mtatsminda streets from Melikishvili Avenue – Janashia, Tarknishvili, Tatishvili, Chovelidze, and Zandukeli streets, and then through Barnovi, Gogebashvili, and Kakabadze brothers streets.
And, cars hit indirectly in the area near Melikishvili Avenue and Rustaveli metro station – using Griboedov, Makashvili, Barnov, and Shanidze streets. Movement to Freedom Square will be restricted only in the direction of Rustaveli Avenue.
Vehicles going from the area near the metro station “Rustaveli” towards Freedom Square were able to move on Rustaveli Avenue, after turning to the olive fruit tree with the help of Mikheil Javakhishvili Street and Mtkvari right bank.
During the restriction period, public transport moved from Merab Kostava Street to Nikoloz Baratashvili Street – through Mikheil Javakhishvili and Mtkvari’s right bank. Nikoloz Baratashvili continues to walk from the street according to the established scheme.
Buses and minibusses going in the opposite direction connected Merab Kostava street again through Mtkvri right bank and Mikheil Javakhishvili street, and then they will move according to the established scheme.
