Tbilisi: The prosecutor’s office of Georgia has charged one person for the intentional murder. The murder took place in Rustvai. The accused murdered his wife and mother-in-law due to earlier enmity.
An investigation into this regard was conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs after receiving the initial information. The investigation of the internal ministry further revealed that on May 22 in Rustavi, the accused inflicted life-threatening, severe injuries in the heart and chest area with multiple shots from a hunting rifle. He acted on the grounds of intolerance and gender discrimination. he shot multiple fires at his wife and his wife’s mother, who were traveling with a baby in a stroller. The injury caused by the accused lead to the death of both two victims on the spot.
Soon after receiving the information the law enforcement officers arrested the accused on the same day. He is charged with different provisions of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The different proviso of law, including 11 Prima, Article 109, subsections “B,” “T,” “K,” and “L,” has been imposed. The section defined punishment (the premeditated murder of two family members, committed due to gender discrimination. The act intentionally endangers the life and health of others). The charge under the first part of Article 126 of the same code (systematic psychological and physical violence) was also imposed.
After the conclusion of the trial if the accused is found guilty of the crime. He may be convicted and sentenced to up to 20 years in jail or life imprisonment. The prosecutor’s office applies to the court within the time limit established by the law with a motion to extend the detention of the accused as a preventive measure. The motion has been moved to prevent the accused from damaging the evidence. Georgian law is very strict regarding gender-based crimes.
As per recent data the offense against women has increased manifold in the country. The women’s organizations are demanding more strict legal provisions to curb the problem.
