Rustavi reviews steps to improve city air quality

Rustavi, Georgia: A working meeting on improving Rustavi’s atmospheric air quality was held at the City Hall of Rustavi on Wednesday, January 20, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce pollution and improve environmental conditions in the city.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia shared the glimpses of the working meeting on January 20, 2026, Wednesday. The Georgian Environment Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.

During the working meeting on improving atmospheric air quality and fulfilling environmental obligations in Rustavi, the results of the city’s Atmospheric Air Quality Management Plan (2023-2025), current challenges, and issues related to additional measures to reduce air pollution were discussed.

The meeting brought together representatives of local and central authorities, environmental experts, and other stakeholders to review progress achieved so far and coordinate further actions aimed at ensuring cleaner air and better public health outcomes for Rustavi residents.

The meeting was attended by Irakli Shatakishvili, the Mayor of Rustavi, and 10 communities of Rustavi and Garabani in the Georgian Parliament.

The participants of the meeting paid special attention to industrial facilities and vehicle emission control, inspection results, tightening sanctions, and monitoring system improvement.

Work to improve air quality must be continued proactively. Despite some progress, planning additional initiatives is necessary. This issue is a priority for the Ministry and, together with Rustavi City Hall, we are ready to take more ambitious steps together,” said Nino Tandilashvili.

The meeting defined future measures, including increasing the number of inspections, proactive analysis of self-monitoring results, and appropriate penal response, tightening sanctions on exceeding explosive standards.

Also, the phased implementation of the Industrial Emissions Law, integrated environmental permit, and the best available technology are planned.
