Georgia: The sports complex of Colonel Besik Kutateladze Mountain Training School in Sachkhere hosted a weightlifting tournament (U23) dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Olympic champion Giorgi Asanidze. The tournament was held on August 29-30, 2025.
It is worth noting that up to 80 weightlifters from 12 districts of Georgia competed; the winners and prize-winners were also selected in the team ranking.
The tournament named after Giorgi Asanidze is held every year, and this year was outstanding, because it coincided with the 50th anniversary of the famous weightlifter Giorgi Asanidze.
The opening ceremony of the event, which was held on August 30, was attended by the first vice-president of SEOK, Elguja Berishvili, and Revaz Robakidze, the head of SEOK Imereti regional organization.
The event was also attended by the heads of the National Weightlifting Federation of Georgia, Sachkheri Municipality Hall, and Sakrebulo, as well as the heads of the Mountain Training School named after Colonel Besik Kutateladze, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. The guests gave memorable gifts to Giorgi Asanidze.
Olympic champion Giorgi Asanidze was awarded the SEOK anniversary medal by the first vice president, Elguja Berishvili.
Revaz Robakidze, the head of the Imereti Regional Organization of SEOK, presented Giorgi Asanidze with the 2004 Athens Olympic Games anniversary medal, which was specially issued for the Athens Summer Games.
