Sagarejo Municipality, Georgia: Mayor of Sagarejo Municipality, Avtandil Gulikashvili, recently visited the employees of the Mariamjvari State Reserve Administration on the occasion of the International Day of Forests.
During his visit, Mayor Gulikashvili was accompanied by his First Deputy Emzari Kuchuashvili. They congratulated the employees on their professional day and presented them with symbolic gifts.
Furthermore, the Director of the Mariamjvari State Reserve Administration, Zviadi Tiginashvili, engaged the guests with interesting information on the International Day of Forests. He further spoke about the forests of Georgia and their importance such as its protective functions in the context of climate change.
The Director also spoke about the history of how these protected areas were created and the role of Georgia’s renowned scientists – Professor Zakaria Kurdiani and Academician Vasil Gulisashvili – in the creation of protected areas. The name of these two scientists are given to two tourist trails in the Tsiv-Gombori reserve.
The delegates discussed the challenges of the administration and outlined ways to solve them by collaborating with the rangers and guests that were present at the meeting.

International Day for Forests
The International Day of Forests is celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests. This day encourages all nations to make efforts at local, national, and international level to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the theme of International Day of Forests 2025 is “Engaging the next generation in the connection between forests and foods”.
Throughout the course of this year, the aim for the International Day of Forests was recognized to highlight the International focus of forests as it relates to food security, nutrition, and people’s livelihoods.
