Salome Janelidze appointed head of Energy Community Representation in Georgia

Tbilisi: Salome Janelidze, the Director of the Legal Department of SEMEK, has been appointed as the head of the Energy Community Representation in Georgia. As the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission envisage, Salome Janelidze, as the main expert of the Energy Union, will definitely help Georgia in the process of reforming the energy sector in harmonization and transposition of European legislation.

Tbilisi: Salome Janelidze, the Director of the Legal Department of SEMEK, has been appointed as the head of the Energy Community Representation in Georgia. As the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission envisage, Salome Janelidze, as the main expert of the Energy Union, will definitely help Georgia in the process of reforming the energy sector in harmonization and transposition of European legislation.

It is noteworthy that Salome Janelidze has been working in SEMEK since 2015. From 2021 to the present, she has been a member of the Board of the Energy Training Center at SEMEK.

Janelidze, in 2016-2017 was invited as an expert at the Head Office of the Energy Union (Austria, city). Vienna). Her work would concern the harmonization of European Third Energy Package Directives and Regulations with Georgian legislation and the preparation of the work projects.

Salome Janelidze is a lawyer by profession. She has received a Master’s degree in economics and business law from LLM, University of Groningen, Netherlands and international human rights economic law from the University of Essex, United Kingdom.

Currently, Salome Janelidze is a PhD student at the Faculty of Energy of Georgia Technical University. Since 2013, she has been a member of the Georgian Lawyers Association, where she has been mentoring women working in the energy sector.

Salome Janelidze is a prime example of the inclusion of women in the energy sector. During a conference held in February, the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, highlighted the importance of including women’s contribution in all directions, especially the field of energy, stating “We need professional women in all directions, but more specifically in the field of energy, because the period and era is beginning when more professionalism will be needed.”

At the same event, the member of SEMEK and the Chairman of the Regional Association of Energy Regulators (ERRA), Maia Melikidze, also delivered the speech, highlighting the importance of involving women in the energy sector.
