Georgia: The Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili gave a speech at the plenary session of the European Parliament on December 18, 2024.
“There are two demands: give back my vote, because the elections have been stolen, give me my European future – this is the demand of a new election.” “This is not a revolutionary movement, this is a demand to return elections in a free and fair environment. This is a legitimate demand of people today. They demand to ensure voting democratically,” Georgian President said.
“There is no danger that we are headed for a civil confrontation. On one side there are people and on the other side, there is one party. The proof is that the ruling party chose the Russian route and sometimes they have to pretend that they are going to Europe. Even among their voters, there is a desire for the country to go the European route. All surveys show that people want to develop in European ways,” said President Salome Zourabichvili while speaking at the European Parliament about the protests in Georgia.
President Salome Zurabichvili said during his speech in the European Parliament, “The crucial time is here, because for several days and months, we feel that we are in the year 1921 and events are repeating, and this probably explains what is called courage, with which Georgian population today responds to what they see – a deep reversal about their future, about their freedom, about independence, even though Officially, this issue is not on the agenda.”
“During the elections, I saw the violence that was taking place in some of the polling stations. I called the Minister of Internal Affairs and I could not contact him, neither on the mobile phone, nor on the government network, nor his deputies, in no way,” President Salome Zourabichvili said while speaking at the European Parliament.
