The Scaffolding work on the inner and outer perimeters of the episcopal house situated in Alaverdi Cathedral has been completed. The repairing work will now begin shortly.
As the rehabilitation work was progressing the inventory scaffolding was completed and wooden walkways and railings were made on it. The construction of the scaffolding on the western window (stoa) of the Alaverdi Cathedral was also completed.
At the same time the process of erecting the scaffolding on the dome’s neck in the direction of Lovegarden is currently in full swing.
It is worth noting that work continues on the project documentation required for the restoration of the belfry gate and the roof of the western glass building of the Alaverdi Cathedral. Also on June 25 a natural disaster caused huge damage to the tin cover of the dome of the Alaverdi Cathedral. At the same time the stones were broken in various places on the northern side along with damages to the tile roof.
The windows of the western side of the cathedral and the dome were badly damaged and the tin roofs of the bell tower and the bishop’s house were damaged. Other destruction included the balcony of the palace and the roof of the temple which were destroyed by Bath. The cross fell and the infrastructure of the surrounding area was also damaged.
In agreement with the representatives of the Alaverdi Diocese and the agency it was decided to immediately build a scaffold on the cathedral’s facade so that specialists could work on the dome for the complete restoration of the reconstruction work.
It is also worth mentioning that on June 26 the Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Tea Tsulukiani together with the General Director of the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia, Nikoloz Aznaurashvili arrived in Alaverdi and got acquainted with the situation in the monastery complex. She assured the timely start of the construction work of the damaged infrastructure.
The Minister of Culture and Sports also assured that the Government will provide the required financial assistance, which will help to complete the reconstruction work as soon as possible.
