The Scaffolding work on the inner and outer perimeters of the episcopal house situated in  Alaverdi Cathedral  has been completed. The repairing work will now begin shortly.

As the rehabilitation work was progressing  the inventory scaffolding was completed and wooden walkways and railings were made on it. The construction of the scaffolding on the western window (stoa) of the Alaverdi Cathedral was also completed.

At the same time  the process of erecting the scaffolding on the dome’s neck in the direction of Lovegarden is currently in full swing.

It is worth noting that work continues on the project documentation required for the restoration of the belfry gate and the roof of the western glass building of the Alaverdi Cathedral. Also  on June 25  a natural disaster caused huge damage to the tin cover of the dome of the Alaverdi Cathedral. At the same time the  stones were broken in various places on the northern side along with damages to the tile roof.

The windows of the western side of the cathedral and the dome were badly damaged and the tin roofs of the bell tower and the bishop’s house were damaged. Other destruction included the balcony of the palace and the roof of the temple  which were destroyed by Bath. The cross fell and the infrastructure of the surrounding area was also damaged.

In agreement with the representatives of the Alaverdi Diocese and the agency  it was decided to immediately build a scaffold on the cathedral’s facade so that specialists could work on the dome for the complete restoration of the reconstruction work.

It is also worth mentioning that on June 26 the Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia  Tea Tsulukiani together with the General Director of the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia, Nikoloz Aznaurashvili arrived in Alaverdi and got acquainted with the situation in the monastery complex. She assured the timely start of the construction work of the damaged infrastructure.
