Georgia: A ceremonial event on the occasion of the establishment of the Western and Eastern Sardines of the Georgian Defense Forces was held in Senaki, on the 2nd Infantry Brigade’s assembly square on April 1, 2025, Tuesday.
The Minister of Defense of Georgia, Deputy Prime Minister Irakli Chikovani, and Commander of Defense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili hosted President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili at the anniversary ceremony in Senaki.
The event was attended by deputies of the Minister of Defense and the Commander of the Defense Forces, Sardars of the Georgian Defense Forces, representatives of Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti and Senaki municipality, and leaders of the region.
The President and the heads of the Defense Administration addressed the personnel gathered at the Assembly Square, congratulated them on the anniversary of the independence day, and wished them success in strengthening the defense capability of the country. The event continued with the award ceremony of the personal team. Soldiers were awarded medals, weapons, and valuable gifts.
During the event, guests honored the memory of the soldiers killed in the battles for the territorial integrity of Georgia and decorated the memorial of the heroes on the territory of the brigade with a crown.
It is noteworthy that the guests also heard a presentation about the tasks and objectives of the 2nd Infantry Brigade. The Minister of Defense and the Commander of Defense Forces introduced the President to the infrastructure and weapons of the 2nd Infantry Brigade.
Demonstration tactical training was held at the Brigade Military Airfield, during which sub-divisions of the 2nd Infantry Brigade demonstrated the level of combat readiness and coordinated operations. Later, the President and the heads of the Defense Agency spoke to the personnel participating in the training and wished them success.
Notably, on April 1, 2016, the land forces base was formed as west and east bases, strengthening the autonomy of west and east defense forces, and improving management and control efficiency.
