Sammy Wilson, a senior Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) MP, was jeered and booed while addressing a loyalist rally against the Northern Ireland Protocol.
The DUP MP, Wilson, was frequently interrupted as he was addressing a speech at an event at Markethill in Co Armagh.
Jim Allister, who is a TUV Leader, had to come in upfront when DUP MP Sammy Wilson was giving a speech, but the crowd was not listening to him and was jeering him repeatedly. The TUV leader asked the public to only listen to his address and show their anger during the elections.
The TUV leader further added, “I appeal to you to listen to our MP’s speech, and you will get a chance to show your anger and express yourself during the polls, but we all must listen to our unionist speeches.”
Despite such conditions, hundreds of people joined the rally, and many bands also participated.
While thanking Mr Allister, Sammy Wilson said to the crowd that we were on the same side. He further added, “Jim and I are fighting together against this protocol, and we are still fighting. We are not the ones behind implementing such a protocol. It is the British government that brought this protocol and also implemented it.”
The event came when Mr Allister raised his concerns that the DUP was softening its line on the protocol and was also willing to accept various arrangements that still treated Northern Ireland differently from the rest of the United Kingdom.
Sammy Wilson also stressed upon the need for unionists to work as one to oppose this protocol. He also said that Boris Johnson, PM of the UK, should resist the European Union countries stance regarding Northern Ireland as much as he is fighting the Russian President’s tactics in Ukraine.
This protocol has further created new barriers to trade between Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom.
